Tom Gordon MP joins the Joint Committee on Human Rights

Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has secured a place on the Joint Committee on Human Rights.
The Joint Committee on Human Rights has twelve members, who are appointed from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, to examine matters relating to human rights within the United Kingdom, and scrutinise every Government Bill for its compatibility with human rights.
Tom is keen to get down to work. The Committee’s work is vital to ensuring the government is held to account and that it respects the importance of people’s freedoms and rights.
Commenting on his appointment, Tom said:
“I am delighted to have a place on the Joint Committee on Human Rights.
“Human rights touches all of us, and it is the freedoms on which we pride ourselves. It is so important to make sure that the laws passing through Parliament respect human rights.
"Unfortunately the last government didn’t give as much respect to human rights as they should have.
“I am very excited to get down to work.”
