Return the Harrogate Spring Water money to Harrogate
Every year, Harrogate Spring Water pays North Yorkshire Council 0.5% of its revenue for use of the “Harrogate” name. The money originally went to Harrogate Borough Council, but now goes to North Yorkshire after the Harrogate Borough Council was wound up. Tom Gordon and the Lib Dems believe that the money should be returned to the town through the new town council. The money is equivalent to around a quarter of a million pounds a year.
Restoring the money to Harrogate would give the new town council a significant financial boost, helping them do more for the town and ensure that the town sees the benefit of the money that its name and water earns.
Commenting, Tom said:
“This money must be returned to Harrogate, not hidden away by North Yorkshire Council. Harrogate is earning this money, and should see the benefit of it. It’s Harrogate’s – not North Yorkshire’s – name that is earning this money, and Harrogate should see the benefit.”
