Tom Gordon MP elected to House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee
Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, is thrilled to announce he was successfully elected to the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee.
The cross-party committee is responsible for scrutinising the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, ensuring that government policies across departments are informed by solid scientific evidence and expert advice.
Tom brings a wealth of experience to the role, having studied biochemistry at undergraduate level followed by a master’s degree in public health. He then worked in the scientific recruitment and health services research sector. His extensive background in science equips him to make valuable contributions to the committee’s work.
Commenting on his appointment, Tom said:
‘I am delighted to have been elected to the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology select committee.
“As someone who has pursued both academic and professional paths in science, I am excited to combine my previous knowledge and experience with my work in Parliament.
‘I am honoured to follow in the footsteps of former Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Phil Willis, who previously chaired the Science, Innovation, and Technology Select Committee from 2005 to 2010.’
Commenting Lord Willis added:
‘I am delighted to hear that Tom is going to be on the Science, Innovation, and Technology Select Committee.
“This is the committee I chaired when I was an MP, and I know that Tom will bring so much to it.”
