Harrogate and Knaresborough MP hosts launch of new report on access to diabetes technology.
Tom Gordon has hosted the launch of the Access to All report, commissioned by charity Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as JDRF.
The event was attended by a cross-party group of Parliamentarians, across both houses. Among attendees was former prime minister Theresa May, who is an ambassador for Breakthrough T1D.
As the opening speaker at the event, Tom spoke about personal experience from his childhood and witnessing the struggles his sister faced with type 1 diabetes. This included when she collapsed on holiday, being rushed back to the UK, sent home with an orange and a syringe to practise injections.
Following the event, Tom Gordon said:
“ It’s been a real pleasure to host Breakthrough T1D in Parliament today, and to bring together so many in the type 1 diabetes community. I’m really impressed with the progress made in the last decade, but Breakthrough T1D’s report makes it clear that we can’t stop here.
“ We’ve heard at the event today about regional inequality in diabetic care, making access to life saving and life changing technology a postcode lottery. We cannot accept anything less than equitable access to diabetes care.”

The event was hosted on Tuesday 29th October.
