Tom Gordon visits local nature reserve

Last week, Tom Gordon visited Staveley Nature Reserve, a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Reserve in the Harrogate and Knaresborough constituency. The wetland reserve is based around two large former gravel pits, and hosts a large number of species, both birds and mammals. The reserve consists of 79 hectares of land.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust was established in 1946, and has more than a hundred reserves across Yorkshire. As well as Staveley, there is also Burton Leonard reserve in the Harrogate and Knaresborough constituency.
During his visit, Tom met with representatives from the charity, including the CEO, regional manager, and the head of advocacy. They talked Tom through some of the work that they do at Staveley, Burton Leonard and their other sites. Tom also toured around the wetlands as part of his visit, and did some birdwatching.

Commenting, Tom said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Staveley last week. It was wonderful to see the wetlands up close and learn more about the vital work that the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust do to protect and steward their reserves.
“From diverse birdlife to thriving ecosystems, the reserve is a brilliant example of conservation in action. A huge thank you to the team for their dedication to preserving Yorkshire’s wildlife and landscapes. I would thoroughly recommend taking a trip across to the site to see it up close.”
