Tom Gordon MP votes in favour of WASPI compensation bill

On Tuesday this week, a vote took place in Parliament on compensation for WASPI women. Tom was amongst the MPs who voted in favour of the bill. Unfortunately, the vote was non-binding, which means that there will be no requirement for the Government to honour its outcome. If the vote was binding, the Government would have been required to address the Ombudsman’s report and proposals for a compensation scheme.
Tom voted in favour of addressing the Ombudsman report, and setting up a compensation scheme. He is now calling on the Government to take action, allow a binding vote to happen in Parliament and ensure that WASPI women get the justice that they deserve.
Despite the vote, the Government is still refusing to take action. Notably, the Labour Government told their MPs to abstain, which allowed the vote to pass.
Commenting, Tom said:
“The solution here is clear. The Government must take action to right this historic wrong and compensate WASPI women for their loss.
“They’ve waited far too long. That’s why I voted for compensation today, and why I continue to support their campaign.”
