Tom Gordon MP Completes First of Two Marathons for Local Charities

Tom Gordon, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has successfully completed the Paris Marathon in support of two much-loved local charities: Open Country and Harrogate Hospital and Community Charity. He will also take on the London Marathon in just two weeks’ time, continuing his fundraising efforts for the same causes.
This challenge builds on Tom’s previous fundraising runs, including the Great North Run in 2023 and 2024, where he supported Saint Michael’s Hospice.
Tom aims to raise £2,000 by running both marathons. He chose the charities following a public appeal for nominations from constituents, which saw more than 20 local causes put forward.
A regular at Harrogate’s Saturday parkrun on the Stray, Tom is a passionate runner. He completed the Paris Marathon in 4 hours, 51 minutes, and 49 seconds, and has so far raised £870 toward his goal.
With the London Marathon taking place on Sunday 27 April 2025, Tom is encouraging more people to get involved and support the final push towards his fundraising target.
Donations can still be made here.
Tom Gordon MP commented:
“I’m incredibly proud to support Open Country and Harrogate Hospital and Community Charity — two organisations doing invaluable work in our local community. Running is a real passion of mine, and it’s a privilege to combine that with raising money and awareness for causes that matter to people across Harrogate and Knaresborough.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far — and there’s still time for anyone who’d like to contribute before the London Marathon.”
