Tom Gordon calls on the Government to ensure continued funding for Type 1 diabetes and disordered eating services

Yesterday in Parliament, Tom questioned the Government on T1DE services, which provide support to those suffering from Type 1 diabetes and disordered eating. Evidence suggests that up to 40% of girls and women and up to 15% of boys and men with type 1 diabetes experience some form of disordered eating.
Last year, former prime minister Rt. hon Theresa May and Sir George Howarth launched a report into Type 1 diabetes and disordered eating. A number of pilot services across the country were in operation, but these have now shut down in Bournemouth and London and the services in Yorkshire and the Humber are set to end in just two months’ time.
Tom has called on the Government to ensure continuation of funding for T1DE services, which have been found to be both clinically and cost effective.
Commenting, Tom said:
“The T1DE pilot services has been a revolutionary, bringing together separate parts of the health service for the first time to give patients the integrated care they so often need.
“Prior to entering Parliament I worked on policy on this very topic, and heard firsthand how patients fell through the cracks between their diabetes teams and eating disorder services.
“The lose of T1DE services would put patients at a real risk of harm.
“I will continue to push for the funding of these services, and making sure that the NHS has the resources it needs to provide the best care is so important.”
