£53,991,092 worth of repairs needed in Harrogate District as Harrogate and Knaresborough MP calls for urgent investment at the Budget
The latest NHS data has revealed that Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust’s hospitals need £53,991,092 in repairs as Harrogate and Knaresborough MP has called for urgent investment in crumbling hospitals at the Budget in the coming weeks.
Repairs deemed ‘High Risk’ needed in Harrogate and District came to a staggering total of £14,116,257. A high risk repair is defined as something when a failure to urgently address repairs could lead to serious injury and major disruption to services.
Harrogate District Hospital has received money to remove RAAC, but more money is still needed.
Ahead of the Autumn Budget in the coming weeks, Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Tom Gordon, has called for urgent investment in the area's hospitals, to clear the backlog of repairs and ensure that patients are treated in safe environments.
Tom Gordon has called on the Chancellor to use any changes to borrowing rules to use that money to invest in hospitals in Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Tom Gordon, said:
“It is absolutely scandalous that people here in Harrogate and Knaresborough are being treated in hospitals that need millions in repairs. When someone goes to hospital, the very least they should expect is to be treated in a building that is safe.
“This is just another example of the legacy of neglect and mismanagement of our NHS by the Conservative Party and shows that they can never be trusted with our health service ever again. Access to healthcare is vital for our country.
“It is now down to the new government to rise to the greatest challenge facing this country, rescuing our NHS. Which is why at the Budget the Chancellor must use any changes to the borrowing rules to urgently invest in hospitals here in Harrogate and Knaresborough and clear this repair backlog.”
