Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Tom Gordon, reaffirmed his commitment to improving transport across the North by raising an important question during Oral Transport Questions in Parliament today.

Since being elected, one of Tom’s top priorities has been enhancing transport infrastructure for his constituency and the broader Yorkshire region. In September, Tom participated in a Transport for the North panel at the Liberal Democrat Conference, where he shared his vision for boosting the region’s transport networks.

During today’s session in Parliament, Tom pressed the Secretary of State for Transport to ensure that West Yorkshire’s planned mass transit system includes direct links to places like Harrogate. He called for a more unified, regional approach to transport planning to better serve both Harrogate and the wider North.

Tom said:

‘I am pleased to have raised this crucial issue during Oral Questions. Improving transport for my constituents and the North remains a top priority for me, and I look forward to working with colleagues to make it a reality.

‘The North has immense potential, but unlocking it requires serious investment in transport infrastructure. We also need a strategic, joined-up approach to ensure areas like Harrogate, with its large working population, are properly connected to major hubs like Leeds through a mass transit network. The demand is clear, and we must act to ensure places like Harrogate are not left behind.’

During Oral Questions on Transport on Thursday 10th October, Tom Gordon asked the following question: ‘West Yorkshire borders my patch of Harrogate and Knaresborough, will the Secretary of State ensure that a West Yorkshire mass transit that links into Leeds, connects with places like Harrogate that are just across the border, and we have a combined approach to the region?’

The Transport for the North Panel at the Liberal Democrat conference which Tom participated in was on 16th September 2024.
