On Friday 7th February, Tom Gordon MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, chaired ‘What’s Your Beef?’ – a panel discussion providing disabled people with a platform to voice their concerns and challenges directly to key experts.

Organised by Disability Action Yorkshire, a local charity dedicated to creating opportunities for disabled individuals, the event brought together experts in transport, housing, healthcare, employment, and town centre accessibility. With specialists from various fields, the panel was well-equipped to address a wide range of concerns raised by the public.

The discussion aimed to drive meaningful change by tackling everyday barriers faced by disabled people. Community members were invited to share their experiences, highlighting issues such as accessing healthcare, navigating public transport, and securing employment.

Tom was delighted to have chaired the event and to be part of something that actively encouraged disabled people to share the barriers they face with experts who can work to find solutions.

Commenting, Tom said:

‘Hearing directly from disabled people about the challenges they face is essential in making real, lasting change.

‘The event served as a reminder that accessibility and inclusion must be at the heart of our policies and communities.

‘I am grateful to Disability Action Yorkshire for holding this event and to everyone who shared their experiences on the day. We must continue working together to break down these barriers and ultimately ensure all members of our community have the same opportunities.’
